Sajak

This is my first published poem as printed in Dewan Masyarakat, September 1966:

Jendela dan Kemeja

Kubuka jendela
biar angin bertiup puyuh
karena kamarku demikian rusuh.

Kubuka kemeja
biar angin bertiup basah
karena dadaku demikian resah.

Jendela dan kemeja
telah kubuka
kamarku dan dadaku
tenanglah sepanjang waktu.

25hb. Jun, 1966.

April is the cruellest month, breeding
Lilacs out of the dead land, mixing
Memory and desire, stirring
Dull roots with spring rain.

Welcome to my blog. This is my first trial. I am Wan A. Rafar. I am a poet. I write poems in Malay. Some of my poems were translated into English and collected in Mas Tempawan (Burnished Gold), edited by Muhammad Haji Salleh.

Jendela dan Kemeja (or Window and Shirt) is the title of my first published poem. It was published in Dewan Masyarakat in September 1966. Then I was a student at the Language Institute (better known LI) in Lembah Pantai Kuala Lumpur.
